I went through and picked everything I want...I'm pretty sure it all works together and everything but I wanna be sure I'm not missing anything. Price isn't a huge issue which explains some of my choices but if you guys can show me any alternatives to this stuff that costs less and is just as good that'd be nice. As far as random extra stuff like USB ports and all are concerned, I have an old computer with those so I can just grab them off of it. Also I'd rather not spend any more money than I already will with this current setup. DVD drive Hard drive Monitor Motherboard Wireless card Video card Speakers Keyboard RAM Processor Cooler (pretty much guessed wildly with this one) Case Power supply Anywho, any input would be nice. |

I'd post my end-of-year computer specs which I expect to destroy the world with when I buy it at the end of the year, if price really doesn't matter to you. |

You should buy an HDTV for your monitor. I plan on doing so >_>b |

Well that's an HD monitor (which is only 1 inch smaller than my HDTV that I have now) and it's much cheaper for the quality than similar sized HDTVs are. I really wanna but a new HDTV around 40 inches in size but I also want this computer and I don't want to buy both at the same time. |

Well, my situation is a bit different, so I understand. I'm moving into a dorm next year, so I want my monitor to also be my TV for all various purposes, so I'm gonna find a cheap 1080i 32" somewhere. If I can find one >_> |

Nice. I'm working with a 2 and a half year old laptop right now that isn't really the strongest thing ever and also isn't being used for its intended purpose (bringing to class for notes) because I haven't really had any classes where I need it/half of them won't even let us use them. The funny thing is this potential computer here is cheaper than this laptop was and it's way better. It'll be pretty weird to have a monitor that's the sameish size as my TV in the same place but I'll just save up for an awesome TV for later. Also Chet I'd like to see this computer of yours. I hope it's gonna use this monitor. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001305 |

It's not the most destructive thing evar, but it'll do amazing things. Haven't decided on a motherboard. NVidia GeForce GTX 295 Quad i7's 8GB RAM Already have a 22" LCD to use as well as my 2 other TV's (50" Plasma, 32" LCD) Still need to think about the rest, but that's the core of what I'm going to buy. |

Those kinds of articles just remind me of how little I really know about computer technology. |

to summarize, just a hair below an i7 for 1/3 of the price, 2 more cores to boot. |

My friend recommended going for an ATi-AMD combo instead of an Intel-NVidia. Don't know which one I should go for. |

That's what I'm going for. I don't have any experience or knowledge to really say which is better though. |

I'm not going to look through the entire list, but you should go with the AMD Phenom II X6 Txxxx processor. 3.2 GHz, 6-core processor. That thing's a beast. |

Uh I'm not sure poj, all that stuff's at home. I think it is though, it's not THAT old. Also thanks Alch...but that increases my price by over 120 bucks. |

in fairness, to continue my comparison to the i7 configurations, that i7 chipset came out like almost 2 years ago and is still really the state of the art. in the span of my life, i can think of very few processors that hold the same claim. given that the AMD set it just short of the i7's absurd power, i'd say $120 over budget is a small price to pay for the expected return on your build's usable lifespan. plus, the AMD set is fresh off the assembly line at this point. skimping on a Chipset is like skimping on a muscle car's engine. do you really want a 282 block when you could've held out a bit for a bored-out 450? do you really want to skimp on this build and end up having this same conversation in a year or so, regretting not going for it? |

Yeah, I guess you're right. I wish there was a way to get that and keep my total cost down...it's not really a big deal though. I'm pretty sure most everything else in the cart is about as low as I wanna go in terms of quality anyway. |
